en Paraguay: Rechazo
a la segunda Mesa de Soja Responsable
La soja es la esencia del Modelo de Desarrollo Irresponsable, Insustentable y Antidemocrático en el Paraguay actual. La Megaproducción de soja es la principal causa de la destrucción de los territorios, del agua, de las comunidades y de los ecosistemas del Paraguay. La Segunda Conferencia sobre Soja Responsable (antes llamada Sustentable) se realizará en un hotel de lujo el Yacht y Golf Club, desde el 31 de agosto al 2 de Setiembre. Su supuesta meta : 'la definición de una producción, procesamiento y comercio responsable con criterios que atiendan los aspectos económicos, ambientales y sociales. Esta conferencia 'participativa' estará integrada por ONGs como WWF, Solidaridad, Guyra Paraguay e IDEA, quienes *compartirán la mesa* con empresas multi-nacionales como Unilever, Grupo Andre Maggi, Bancos como el ABN-AMRO y Gremios como CAPECO, CAP y AAPRESID. Los movimientos indígenas, campesinos, urbanos y organizaciones sociales del Paraguay, así como otros movimientos, grupos y ciudadanos solidarios que se adhieren a esta Declaración, rechazamos el modelo económico exportador de materia prima de los monocultivos de soja, basado en el uso masivo de biocidas y tóxicos, y en la introducción del peligro de los transgénicos. Este modelo es responsable por la expoliación del patrimonio natural y cultural; la expulsión de la población local y la concentración del poder sobre los procesos de decisión en las economías nacionales y sobre los territorios ocupados por la soja, poniendo en grave riesgo la misma soberanía de los Estados nacionales, de sus pueblos y comunidades. Soy Model: Irresponsible, unsustainable, opressive Call
to support the countermovemente to the second ”Round Table on
Responsible Soy” From
August 31 - 2nd September, the second 'Round Table on Responsible Soy'
will take place in Asunción, Paraguay. Initiated by WWF, the Round Table
is co-organised by Coop Switzerland, Unilever, ABN-AMRO, AAPRESID, Grupo
Andre Maggi, and Guyra Paraguay. In the ambiance of a luxury hotel,
options will be discussed to create an international niche market for
"responsible soy". The objective of this initiative is to reduce
the "considerable social and environmental costs"
that soy production and its expansion entails. "Responsible
soy" would be soy produced according a set of negotiated criteria.
Buying this specific soy will allow the food and feed industry to
advertise their products as "responsible" or "green". In
Paraguay, indigenous, farmers, urban movements as well as civil society
organisations reject this Round Table as a greenwashing exercise for
agribusiness and industries that benefit from this exploitative and
destructive monoculture. The expansion of soy production in Paraguay goes
hand in hand with increased land conflicts and repression, expulsion of
the rural population, contamination of soil and water with agrochemicals
and related health crises, and loss of food sovereignty. More than 100
peasant leaders have been killed, and 2000 peasants fighting for land are
facing legal cases against them. Against this background, the concept of 'responsible
